The Coronavirus is a significant health concern globally. While the overall public risk of contracting the coronavirus "remains low", it does appear that the elderly and those with weakened immune systems or serious health issues are the most vulnerable. City staff continues to monitor conditions in our community and will follow the guidance and recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control(CDC) and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control(SCDHEC).
According to the CDC “people are thought to be most contagious when they are most symptomatic (the sickest).” They go on to say that “some spread might be possible before people show symptoms; there have been reports of this occurring with this new coronavirus, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.” Below are some tips and resources recommended by the CDC. You can also follow the attached flyer that has much of the same information.
CDC reported symptoms of the COVID-19 virus:
•Fever
•Cough
•Shortness of Breath
Preventative actions recommended by SCDHEC include: (SCDHEC)
•Avoid close contact with people who are sick
•Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
•Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
If you are sick, to keep from spreading respiratory illness to others you should:
•Stay home when you are sick.
•Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
•Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
