On October 5th, the Police Department will host their 1st Annual Camp Cadet Golf Tournament at the Tega Cay Golf Club. Approximately 120 golfers will participate in the event and the Police Department hopes to host this event each year as the main fundraiser for Camp Cadet. Sponsorships, donations and golfer registrations are being accepted on the City’s Police Department website or by calling (803) 578-4996.
Camp Cadet is a new program being launched in the summer of 2016 by the Tega Cay Police Department. This new program will be focused on children in the Tega Cay community. Camp Cadet’s week long program will target kids ages 10-14 (rising 5th, 6th, and 7th graders) with the purpose of education and fostering positive relationships between children and Public Safety officers through an interactive environment. The week will be filled with an emphasis on education, leadership, responsibility and fun activities including Fire education, Police K-9 demonstration, Swat Demonstration, water activities, amusement park visits, and much more. The camp will be limited in total participants as the Police Department hopes to offer the program for free - funded entirely upon donation. Campers will be required to be residents of Tega Cay and have a letter of recommendation from a school sponsor. There is expected to be no more than 40 participants with final approval by the Camp Cadet Selection Committee.
“We are eager to start Camp Cadet in the summer of 2016” states Tega Cay Police Chief Steve Parker. “This will be an outstanding way for Public Safety Officers to interact in positive ways with the community and children on current Police issues while educating them on good choices and leadership. Camp Cadet will need financial support for the 501(c)3 organization in the near future. Please participate in sponsoring or donating in one of the numerous fund raisers planned for the Camp.”
Mayor George Sheppard states “This program is one more way our Police Department is striving to not only keep the City of Tega Cay as the safest city in South Carolina, but to be part of the fabric of our community.”
