Compensation
- Starting salary $43,775
- Competitive pay with education and experience incentives.
- Extra Duty Employment Rate: $55 per hour
- Field Training Officer Incentive: Officer who serve as an FTO receive additional compensation for each shift which they train a recruit.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet all qualifications for employment consideration:
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- Must have a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent recognized by the SC Dept. of Education.
- No convictions of a crime that carries a sentence more than 1 year.
- No convictions of felonies, misdemeanor crimes or crimes of moral turpitude
- Has not engaged in misconduct as defined in regulation 37-073
- Must have good credit history, no judgments, no liens, no recent bankruptcy. Each applicants history will be considered prior to employment
- Must successfully complete a polygraph exam, psychological evaluation, medical physical exam and drug screening.
- Must successfully pass a background investigation
- Must successfully pass an oral interview board
Steps in the hiring process include:
- Application and release to conduct Background Investigation
- Applications reviewed for immediate disqualifiers
- Interview Panel: The applicant is scheduled for an interview with designated panel. The applicant is scored based on their responses to a series of questions.
- Background Investigation: A thorough background investigation is completed on all applicants. This includes (but is not limited to) employment history, driving history, credit check, and a criminal history check.
- Satisfactory completion of Psychological screening, Polygraph test, & Medical/Drug Examination.
In preparation and for the process to efficient, a list of documentation candidates will be required to provide is listed below. The Recruiter will not collect them personally. Applicants will be sent a link to Guardian Alliance Technology upon successful completion of the Physical Agility Test, Written Assessment, and Interview. This is for our candidate’s knowledge so you can be proactive in obtaining all your information.
- Applicant’s Birth Certificate (photocopy)
- Social Security Card (photocopy)
- Driver's License (photocopy)-all candidates must obtain a valid SC driver’s license to be hired by our agency.
- Certified driving record for all states in which the applicant was/is licensed
- Highest college degree earned (photocopy)
- High school diploma or transcript (photocopy)
- An official transcript from the college from which the applicant graduated, sent directly to the Tega Cay Police Department
- If the applicant served in the U.S. Military for any period of time, DD-214 (Member 4 Copy listing Characterization of Service, Separation and Re-Enlistment Codes) (photocopy) or Discharge Certificate (photocopy).
- Licenses or Certificate which show special qualifications or skills (photocopy). If the applicant is a certified law enforcement officer from outside South Carolina, a State Certificate and training academy curriculum with hours must be submitted (photocopy).
