The Tega Cay Police Department (TCPD) is a community-oriented agency with the mission to proactively reduce crime, promote safe habits to enhance safety, and build strong relationships with community partners.
The Tega Cay Police Department has 35 team members, of which 27 are sworn officers. The department is divided into two divisions: Patrol and Support Services. The Patrol division consists of four patrol shifts, including a K9 Team and two Shift Detectives. The Support Services Division is comprised of a Community Outreach Sergeant, School Resource Officers, Training, Dispatch, and Records Management.
The City of Tega Cay is a rapidly growing community situated on a peninsula along Lake Wylie, 20 miles south of Charlotte. Our community is known for its kindness, generosity, and positive change. It has received many accolades for its highly-ranked school system and its status as one of the safest cities in South Carolina. Tega Cay's population has grown from 4,040 residents in 2000 to an estimated 12,832 in 2020. Despite the rapid growth rate, Tega Cay still has a small-town charm.
Tega Cay covers an area of 4.5 square miles, with 3.8 square miles being land and 0.7 square miles being water. The city has several recreational facilities, including a 27-hole golf course, tennis, pickleball, and croquet courts, as well as 14 public parks, including a 62-acre recreation park along the Catawba River.
