The Citizens Academy is a course provided to current and prospective community members with the intent to provide tools and knowledge to allow the more effective participation in local government. The Academy hopes to strengthen citizens’ understanding of the operation of City departments. It is our anticipation that those who participate in the Academy will have a broadened understanding of municipal government and the community which will help to encourage self-help and partnership skills, as well as the establishment of networks between the citizens, neighborhoods and civic organizations and their leaders.
The Program Outline for the sessions include: Administration, Human Resources, Finance, Utilities, Public Works, Storm Water, Development Services, Public Safety, Parks & Rec and Information Technology.
Classes meet once a week from 6:30 - 8 p.m. for a total of five sessions in the Council Chambers, located in the lower level of The Glennon Center at 15077 Molokai Drive. The fee for the course is $5 to cover cost of materials (free for students). Class size is limited to 20 participants.
